The Samaritans 5K Run/Walk and Family Fun Festival 12 Annual 5K was a huge, beautiful success! Thank you to all of our runners, walkers, and teams. We were 2500 strong, and came out to remember hundreds of loved ones lost to suicide and to honor the thousands more who continue to struggle.
When: Saturday, October 1, 2011
Time: Registration opens at 8:00 am. Run/Walk begins at 10:00 am.
Where: DCR Artesani Park in Brighton
What: The Samaritans 5K Run/Walk is an annual fundraiser to benefit the work of Samaritans, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of suicide. Thank you to everyone who made the event a success! We hope to see you next year!
A great day to be alive!
The 5K was a wonderful day for the entire Samaritans community. People turned out in droves in spite of the drizzle that picked up into a steady rain when we opened registration at 8am. While the day may have started off rainy, by race time the rain trickled off and left us with the cool, overcast weather our runners love! Artesani Park was awash in the colors of team t-shirts, as individuals and teams walked and ran for someone else's life. You can feel the love and support that characterized the day when you look through our pictures and especially when you review the 2011 Memorial List in which we remember the more than 200 people being honored by this year’s 5K participants.
The event was record setting in many ways. More people came and raised more money than ever before. Whether you walked or ran, individually or as a part of a team, or if your contribution was to support a team or individual participant - we thank you for getting us this far. If you've gathered pledges, and were unable to join us on October 1st, please send them in - all donations will continue to count toward the 5K, and will be sure to push us up over our goal! Online donations can also be made on individual and team fundraising pages for those who participated.
Another option to support the 5K is to donate to the "In Our Hearts" general fundraising page for the event to make a general contibution to the 5K. Thank you!
